Enron
Unable to Meet Commitment to Technology For All
In a letter received from Cindy Olson, Executive Vice-President, Human Resources and Community Relations, TFA was informed "the company bankruptcy filing forces us to rescind previously committed donations. We recognize and regret the hardship that this causes your organization and your contributions to the community. After having been an active community participant for so many years, it is painful for all of us at Enron to be in this position. We are concerned about the void our situation creates in the community and are doing what we can to see it filled by other local corporations." Enron's commitment to TFA involved cash, bandwidth and other in-kind donations. TFA President and Chief Executive Officer Will Reed noted "we are grateful to Enron for their generous donations in the past. While the loss of their donations will have a significant impact on our bottom line, we remain committed to our mission. Our staff and board are actively involved in a strategic planning effort that will help us continue our important work bring about meaningful and sustainable change in America's underserved communities through the tools of technology." TFA's web infrastructure, hosted by FYI-Net, has provided uninterrupted service to affiliated community technology centers in spite of Enron's inability to continue its commitments that included bandwidth and other broadband services. Providers located outside of Enron's now dark broadband network host the eLearning offerings provided by TFA.
