Houston April 26, 2000 Today, Andrew Cuomo, secretary of HUD, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Technology For All (TFA) to provide connectivity to 100 HUD Neighborhood Network computer-learning centers in 20 cities across the US. With broadband access, this connectivity will allow HUDs Neighborhood Network facilities to access TFAs shared software applications and educational resources. These include standard office applications, technical training programs, literacy and GED resources, as well as high-bandwidth interactive educational content.
TFA is a national 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that creates opportunity for the disadvantaged through access to technology. Through relationships with several major corporations, TFA is able to provide this service, valued at approximately $1.5 million per year, to HUDs Neighborhood Networks.
In some cases, TFA will also receive and install new and recycled computers at Neighborhood Network centers identified by HUD, and could also provide volunteers to install and set up equipment and software, help troubleshoot systems, and act as mentors to HUD clients visiting the centers.
Technology For All is bridging the Digital Divide. With the support of its corporate sponsors, TFA is creating a national technology infrastructure that will allow the organization to be an Application Service Provider to disadvantaged youth and their families through TFA-sponsored or affiliated technology learning center sites around the world.
