TECHNOLOGY FOR ALL AND ENRON BROADBAND SERVICES CONNECT HOUSTON TECHNOLOGY CENTERS TO BRIDGE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE

HOUSTONTechnology For All (TFA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation committed to providing technology access for underserved communities, and Enron Broadband Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Enron Corp. (NYSE: ENE), announced today the connection of five Houston area technology learning centers to the Enron Intelligent Network.
PDQ.net, Houstons largest independent Internet service provider and a wholly owned subsidiary of Internet America (NASDAQ: GEEK), and Covad Communications (NASDAQ: COVD), a leading national broadband services provider utilizing digital subscriber line (DSL) technology, have joined forces with Enron and TFA to provide DSL service to the centers free of charge. Located at Arbor Courts Apartments, H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Pursue Excellence) Center, Park Place Community Technology Center, Stevenson Elementary and Twin Oaks Apartments in Pasadena, the centers provide computer access and training to improve educational and employment opportunities for underserved populations. They are part of a network of more than 60 community technology centers created in Houston since 1998 by Technology For All-Houston, the local organization of Technology For All.
Enron Broadband Services, a national sponsor of TFA, is providing the Enron Intelligent Network as a platform for delivering software applications and educational content to TFA-affiliated centers. Connection to Enrons network provides broadband access to TFAs shared virtual library, including standard office applications, technical training programs, literacy and GED resources, as well as interactive educational content. Enrons global broadband network allows the scalability necessary to deliver secure, high-bandwidth content. The Enron Intelligent Network bypasses the congestion of the public Internet to provide a superior quality of service. In addition, Enron has committed computer equipment to local TFA centers.
The digital divide is one of the most significant issues we face in todays economy. Through partnerships with organizations such as Technology For All, the business community can bridge the digital divide and solve the issue of how to make technology accessible on a widespread basis, said Kenneth L.
