Community Technology Center of the Year Recognized
Technology For All-Houston Recognizes East Side Village Community Learning Center as the 2002 Community Technology Center of the Year

Houston, Texas - (November 11, 2002) – The East Side Village Community Learning Center (ESVCLC) has been chosen as the Technology For All-Houston “Community Technology Center of the Year” for 2002. Community Technology Centers (CTCs) are public spaces in underserved communities where computers and educational opportunities are provided to the community. CTCs serve an important role in many communities by bringing technology and the opportunities it provides to persons who might not otherwise have those opportunities.

Since 1998 Technology For All-Houston (TFA-Houston) has worked in collaboration with over 150 community-based organizations to help them create CTCs through the re-deployment of corporate technology assets being replaced and through the provision consultative services and community leadership. In choosing ESVCLC as the 2002 CTC of the Year, Dr. Will Reed, TFA-Houston President and Chief Executive Officer remarked, “The committee recommended ESVCLC because they serve their Third Ward community well. They offer a multitude of classes and training opportunities by leveraging their community credibility and collaborating with multiple organizations and service providers. In these difficult times of limited resources, positive change in our communities can continue to take place by working together.”

Also recognized with “Honorable Mention” CTC of the Year awards were Destiny Bridge Builders that serves Southwest Houston and Texas Interfaith Housing. The 2002 CTC of the Year award will be presented to Manson B. Johnson, II, Executive Director of East Side Village, on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at 6 p.m. at the East Side Village Community Learning Center located at 3814 Holman Street.
