Technology For All-Houston Distributes Computers to Community-Based Organizations
Computers Donated by Area Corporations for Development of CTCs

Houston, Texas - (November 15, 2002) – On Saturday, November 16, 2002 Technology For All-Houston (TFA-Houston) will distribute two hundred and forty one (241) computers to fifteen community-based organizations for the development or improvement of grass roots community technology centers (CTCs). Houston area individuals and corporations have donated computers for the program. TFA-Houston is focused on bringing technology and the opportunities it provides to Houston’s underserved communities.

Groups receiving computers include grass roots community organizations as well as social service agencies and faith-based initiatives. Those receiving computers include small organizations like A+ Educational Research and Development in Clute and large multi-service agencies like Wesley Community Center. They include community groups like the Black United Fund as well as community development corporations. Every organization receiving computers from Technology For All-Houston will use them to develop community technology centers. CTCs are public access points for persons who do not have access to computers as well as places that help persons gain the skills and training they need to function more effectively in today’s information society.

Organizations receiving computers from TFA-Houston have completed an extensive “request for computer” process during which each organization prepared a technical plan and a program plan to serve the needs of their community. TFA-Houston assisted each of these organizations in this process and has helped them aggregate other tools and skills necessary to fulfill their dream to establish a CTC in their community.

Computers for the program have from major corporations like Shell, El Paso, ChevronTexaco and ExxonMobil as well as concerned individuals. Corporations or community groups wishing to participate in the program are encouraged to contact TFA-Houston at 713.961.0012.
